'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.'

i think what we're also seeing [with the billboard] is target marketing. Dodge has been running "HEMI" commercials for a while now. Do you get them in Oregon? if not, let me give you the rundown. two greasy-haired bafoons pull up to a stoplight in an old Dodge next to a middle-aged guy in a shiny black Dodge truck. The older guy is towing a classic Dodge Hemi muscle car. the bafoons lower the window, and in a strong Texas drawl, ask "Hey, that thing got a Hemi?" the light changes and the older guy peels out in his truck, leaving the dorks in his dust. at the next stoplight, they pull up next to the older guy again and he says, "Oh, were you talking about the car?" I think the billboard is trying to tap into the strong Texan sentiment found in the commercial. People here like trucks, muscle cars, and, apparently, greasy bafoons.

dang - so... it's hip to be unedubacated? ... but - speaking to someone and sounding stupid is one thing... it's easy (sometimes) to tell if he/she is a moron... it's another thing to do it in writing for the whole world to see.. it just makes them seem downright idiotic.

i think what most people in other parts of the country miss is that acting/being stupid or uneducated is not necessarily viewed as negative in texas. it's actually somewhat counter-cultural - most of the world has some sort of education mandate. That means that the establishment wants people to conform and learn something. Texas is not a conformist state peopled with robots. They choose to buck the system and either not educate themselves or act as though they haven't been educated. It's a state full of dumbass James Deans. Look no further than the current occupant of the oval office...
