i've never given up on a book before and i've never taken as long as i have to read a book as i have with this one. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance just plain puts me to sleep. i've got about 70 pages left and i can't read them. i think i've gotten a sufficient amount out of the book to warrant giving up. the gist of it is: think before you act; be rational; don't fight yourself; learn from the past, live in the present, and plan for the future.

yeah, i'd skip this one. The Tao of Pooh gets a similar point accross and is much less painful. Despair was a wild, wacky book. read it in college for a class. the part that always comes to mind when i think of that book is when the main character looks at the other guy's spine as he's bending over and notices that it's "glistening." do spines glisten? wierd.

Maybe I won't pick this up, after all. I've meant to for some time, but we seem to have at least similar taste in books, so perhaps I'll give this one a miss. BTW, have you ever read Despair by Nabokov? If not, do so immediately. It's a gorgeous bit of writing.
