thinking of the ThinkPad

Anyone out there in Internet land have an IBM ThinkPad? Specifically the T41? My Dell Inspiron 1100 just ain't cuttin' it in terms of portability, though everything else rocks.

Oh yeah, and a Dell laptop is for sale. About a year old. Great shape.

it's not you, it's me. the code is buggy - anytime there is a space in the text part of the link, the page goes whack. i'll fix your post. i don't know if i can make the switch to mac just yet. i'm so used to windows...

Foo! If I hadn't typo'ed , that would be a link to www.apple.com/education, which has a price list.

Edu discounts on iBooks range from $150-$100 off, which is a good chunk of change off a $1100 base machine. They're nice machines, too. You should also (if you switch platforms or not) remember the joys of academic pricing on software. I know I miss those rates...

you could just take the plunge and buy an ibook with your .edu discount. I slobber over Sophia's (ibook) every time I see it.

thanks Michael. yeah, windows laptops aren't the sexiest. it seems more and more of them are looking like macs. i just need something that does what i need it to and won't give me a back-ache.

It's what the office got for me. I use it for a desktop replacement (it replaced a 450MHz IBM that was 5 years old). The TCP/IP changing software is sorta clunky, but not the worst thing I've ever seen. I drag it home when I have to work from home or from the Times Square office. Otherwise, it's pretty much invisible. It's a Windows laptop, there's just not that much excitement that can raise in me.

It's not just girls who want to stroke it- Ilan has just spent the last 5 minutes doing that to mine. My Lifebook, that is.

less than 3 lbs, and the girls all want to stroke it. Ahh, undergrads. I keep getting older, and they just stay the same age.

I think the lifebook-P is reasonably priced, and actually portable. You might also consider a used vaio. Mine's a pcg-nvx something or other, with a pII.. Runs 98, and is more than enough for class. Magnesium case,
