I talked to the old roomie yesterday. We both graduated from UT with the same degree at the same time and got hired at the same company at the same time. I left in July of last year for law school, and he stuck around to figure things out. Well, he figured things out. He’s off to L.A. to see about that screenwriting passion of his. I wish I had the balls he did. If it were me, I’d have left corporate life and toured with a band. I went to law school instead. Yeah, I’m really interesting.
Good luck, dude. You gonna start a blog or what? “Poker-Obsessed Screenwriting Philippino Ditches TX for CA.” And don’t worry, blogs are free. (Hah).

studio setup prices as still in free-fall. It used to be that the amazing thing was that you could duplicate 90% of a $2.5M studio for $25K. Now you can get most of the $25K setup for $5K to $2K. I started playing with Apple's Garageband 2 last week (on the wife's new laptop), and this sub $100 program does things we used awfully expensive gear to make in the past... But that doesn't mean you don't need a guitar rig too big for one man to move to get the right sound to capture... :)

I totally with agree with Michael. Music stuff is hella expensive, and studio time is worse. Which is why one day i want to build a studio in my basement. But that requires a house with a basement. And probably a job. LOL @ skorloff and swandive.

well, nothing needs a lawyer like a rock and roll band... or bloody mary - that broad TOTALLY needed legal representation.

When I worked at the studio, there were a couple of lawyer-bands who we recorded. There's something to be said for being able to afford the gear you want and the studio time to make an album for sheer love.

Now, you can always tour with a band AFTER law school. My buddy's band has a bassist who's a lawyer, and he also runs marathons (the lawyer, not the buddy, the buddy is a biker). But I digress. Blame Mary, Queen of Scots!
