crackers

For the record, I’d like to make something clear:

Passover is my least favorite holiday. Yes, I know that’s probably blasphemous. Yes, I know my people wandered the desert for an entire generation. But here’s the thing: you try eating glorified crackers for a week and tell me how you feel. They’re Saltines - minus the salt. I don’t care how you modify them, they taste like cardboard no matter what.

Having just searched my archives, I realize I’ve said this before. Exactly one year ago. But that’s not gonna stop me from posting it.

4/24, addendum: yet one more reason i don't like passover. the dinner ran so late that e and i missed the deathray davies' show. on the bright side, we met up with some of her friends at a bar instead, and consequently, every jewish kid we grew up with in Houston's city limits who's within 5 years (plus or minus) of our age. one of her friends was especially fun. she and e have the same name, and when they traveled europe together, people would ask then "wow, so are you, like, sisters!?!?" i only wish i could convey the pure hilarity of the impersonation e and e gave me of their enthusiastic "yeaahhhhh!!"

All of this Michael Chabon talk, my name being mentioned (not a huge surprise), and here i am not knowing about it. Luckily, I'm here now. Where to start? Oh yeah, I haven't read Summerland, but now I will. K&C: very good, yes. did anybody read 'mysteries of pittsburgh'? This comment is too old now, and no one will go back and read it. pman will probably delete it anyway, because i'm not talking about crackers. great. I wish I was dead. Don't even say 'me too', not cool.

For the record, I agree about Summerland. Good, but definitely not Chabon's best work. K&C is pretty darned hard to beat. Swandive, Erik is clearly more tolerant about people taking over his comments than p-man. Also, everyone seems old to Cherz because he's 14.

"ol' swan"? hmmmm.... not sure what i think of that one, cowboy... "hot swan" or "lovely swan" or "elegant swan" seem to suit me better, anyway. :)

yup, i'm Jewish. is your dad's sect taking applicants? summerland was a different animal than K&C. it wasn't bad, so to speak, it just felt like Chabon was going after a different kind of book. it wasn't what i was expecting, that's for sure. i always wonder about all those old posts and if they're being read. i guess they are. i make no guarantees about their quality or accuracy. not that i do for the new ones, but you know. i'm rambling now.

I was going through your earlier post and saw your post about Michael Chabon's Summerland. I have mixed feelings about this book. I bought it on the first day it came out because of my love for Kavalier and Clay and felt like a Star Wars geek in the process because I was there when the bookstore opened. I only liked Summerland. It wasn't trying to be as ambitious as Kavalier but I blamed the book for that anyway.

Are you Jewish? My dad is one of those Jews who doesn't follow any of the dietary restrictions (as your previous poster Michael) called them. Maybe you should join my dad's sect.

m - don't tempt me with the cheeseburger. i'm at my weakest right now. finals are looming, i'm stressed out, and i can't eat bread. h - for real. my diet for the next week will likely consist only of meat, fruit, and veggies. i hope to keep the matzah count as low as possible. s - elijah is whoever you want him to be, including a 24-lb cat. bacon pizza, eh? oy, i'm getting v'klempt.

man, this posting didn't go the direction i thought it might when i read the title... crazy mara and i had "seder" last night. when i say "seder" i mean to use those quotes that get stuck in my craw. because i came in and watched her (she's the jew) eat bacon pizza while i put on makeup. but we left the door open for elijah. what are the chances elijah is a 24 lb orange cat named bubba? because he sure wandered right on in before we left for a party.

don't do it, p-man. i think it's great that you have enough faith stick to the nasty cracker thing. you can eat some extra fruit to make up for the lost carbs.

Um. Have you considered violating the dietary restrictions? A bacon cheeseburger would do nicely for that.
