prom

So, law school prom was Saturday night. It was a blast. We snuck some rum and coke into the hotel room, drank it up beforehand, then went down to the ballroom and ate and danced. It was fun seeing my professors shake it down on the dance floor. One of them busted out with line dancing. Yeah, line dancing. She taught me Contracts last semester – go figure. One of my favorite professors won several awards for being an all-around amazing person and everyone else’s favorite professor too. Another professor wore a bow-tie, and pulled it off.

At around 12 everyone ditched the hotel for the basement-bar of another hotel. This place was a little more rowdy, and the dance floor was smaller so everyone (me, mostly) was bumping into everyone. My girlfriend is a dancing machine and I could hardly keep up with her. One of my classmates, probably noting my questionable dance moves, said, “she makes you look good.”

This is true.

All in all, everyone had a great time. We talked as little about school as possible at the table since a) there were two non-law school people at the table and b) the rest of us are in law school and don't want to talk about it. Instead, the fact that I have not seen Steel Magnolias became a major issue, and the table as a whole collectively reprimanded me. Not sure what the deal is with that. I guess it's a good movie. So i hear. Whatever.

actually, i saw closer last week. and i agree, she is no natalie. and yes, still thought she was annoying. i think it's her voice. it's always the same - i like to think of it as the andie mcdowell syndrome. not impressed with her acting, or lack thereof. ok, i'll get off the JR hate now.

blasphemy! just a quotable movie? yeah, you got me on that 15 years thing...

SM is a classic; BL is just a quotable movie. Also, SM came out 15 years ago - you are WAY behind. Time to get educated!

h - have you seen closer? i thought julia was pretty good in that. she's no natalie though. mmmmmm natalie. e - i don't think you can talk. you hadn't seen The Big Lebowski until last month, a full seven years after it was released. for shame!

gf here - i am wondering what i got credit for...maybe the night is a blur? satc and steel magnolias are two entirely different concepts (ok so maybe the friends hanging out together but not really). don't you worry - you'll see steel magnolias soon enough and can decide for yourself!

i second that about the steel magnolias/SATC comparison. something about julia roberts just ruins that movie for me. oh, maybe it's because it's julia roberts and she's annoying.

dude that's whack. it would suck to go to that high school. the kids can still get real high, though they might give themselves away by complaining of cotton mouth. erik - thanks, i'm glad i was able to surprise you. i exist only for your amusement. what the girls didn't tell us about steel magnolias is that it's not nearly as good as Sex and the City. wait did i just say that? crap.

i'm equally appalled that you've not yet seen steel magnolias. i haven't seen it either, but that's no excuse, i'm still mad. btw, i think it revolves around women's friendships, so be prepared for a rockin' good time. what am i saying, i haven't even seen it. i'm the most ignorant person ever. p.s. you know the part of the evening which most surprised me? the part where you gave your gf credit where it was due. totally out of character for you, but cool. ;)

aw, nuts... :(

play nice, swandive. or else i might have to put you in time out or (gasp) call a parent-teacher conference.

for how little fun h.s. prom was, for reals, post-grad prom rocks! we knew that it was getting started once people started dropping (not throwing, dropping) their wine glasses on the dance floor. if i were feeling evil now, i'd ask how YOU make the gf look. :)
