steel magnolias

I watched Steel Magnolias with ej last night, and I must say, it was a chick flick. Big surprise there. Weddings were had, food was swiped, tears were shed, hair was teased, old women were cranky. My opinions on this movie are all heavily qualified praises, as in: [something was pretty cool], BUT, [something was also pretty uncool]. For example, Shirley MacClaine’s character was really funny, BUT, Julia Roberts was pretty annoying. Or, setting fireworks off in the tree to scare away birds was a great idea, BUT, the meaningless banter in the hair salon was pretty annoying. Last one. The father's "there's nothing like a great piece of ass" commment was awesome, BUT, Julia Roberts' husband was a total douche bag.

IH8 All People:

I am with the Reese approval group. As for the Meg approval I could go either way but Innerspace rules. And I think bringing up CoA was a mistake for your case since it spawned a crapload of songs that I would prefer to never hear again thanks to how overplayed they got.

sophia - thanks for the reese and meg support...she rocks! awesome meg movies (do i have to list? guess so)...top gun, when harry met sally (who could forget the restaurant scene?), the doors, city of angels.

oh, and as for reese -- i'm with ej. or have we all forgotten about the genius that is the movie election? and i actually enjoyed legally blonde. i think it was smart and funny. "don't stamp your last season prada shoes at me honey!"

I'll post that list of annoying actresses here shortly on my blog. Everyone is welcome to add whomever they like! I'll put an annoying actor one up there as well.

sophia:

i am in agreement about meg ryan playing generally the same roles. i do feel, however, that she deserves some credit for aptly portraying an alcoholic in when a man loves a woman (drool...andy garcia). everyone go see the interpreter!

cripes, y'all! i just posted the one-liner that gets me the strangest looks out of context from that movie! if it helps, i haven't watched ghost in like 8 years. in fact, the last movie i saw started with 3 kids shooting people with automatic weapons. and let's add winona ryder to the annoying actresses list... simply because of her english accent in bram stoker's dracula (the movie that was SO WELL CAST it required both winona AND keanu to speak with accents).

Reese Witherspoon?! oh god... Living with two women, I have to deal with the chick flicks... When "Legally Blond II" is on the TV - I have to leave the house... Give me "Total Recall" anyday. :) I think it's chick flick week on the blogs... swandive is going off about Ghost...

h - yeah, you were right about Julia. i wasn't too impressed. maybe it was just bc she played a whiny character. s - go for it. you have my blessing.

Julia Roberts annoys me. I put her in that class of actress who's not as attractive as she thinks she is, and not as talented as her agent makes her out to be, and completely overrated. Other examples include Jennifer Lopez, Courtney Cox, Meg Ryan, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock and Cameron Diaz. I'm sure I can come up with more, perhaps I'll post an "annoying actress" thing on my blog...

what'd i say about julia roberts, huh? welcome aboard the julia hate train. or at least the julia dislike train. but speaking of julia, i recently saw ocean's 12 - also a chick flick because it's all about the eye candy! julia was looking not so pretty woman - gaunt, pale & dark circles under her eyes. i think they filmed it during her 1st trimester. i'm guessing it was pretty rough.
