Does anyone out there still use cassette tapes? You know, those plastic contraptions with 1/4” magnetic tape wrapped around two spools? I really like them. They’re excellent ways to take LPs with you in the car.
I guess now would be a good time to ask if anyone still listens to LPs.
Anyway, I only ask because I was listening to my LP-to-tape recording of The Police’s Outlandos d'Amour and noticed how much better the LP version of Roxanne sounds on LP than it does on CD. The CD version has absolutely no life; the LP version sounds brash, edgy, and loud. Well, as brash, edgy, and loud as The Police can get.

... you know.. you can digitally recreate that brash, edgy, and loud sound... i still think the ipod is brilliant... and you don't have to use a pencil to hand-rewind it...

Heh. Somewhere I have an MP3 of The Judys performing a punked-out version of La Bamba...

on a slow, long night trapped in my room with a friend in jr. high we went through and listened to rem's "it's the end of the world..." line by line until we got all the words (back in the day when they didn't release lyrics and the internet was nowhere near as cool). we did pretty well, too except for a sad, but hysterical line: "common food for little dudes."

When I was in High school, my friend and I unwound the La Bamba soundtrack and rerolled it backwards to see if there were any evil messages on it when you played it. We heard "it's rebel art" or something like that, and nothing else. It was a really slow day.

this is true. hence, my collection of random Type II tapes from my long and ilustrious history of mix-tape-making. i think a large portion of my teen years was spent planning out and creating the ultimate mix tape.

Well, on a type I tape, it's gonna sound like it's been attacked by angry but leaky balloons...
